Seriously, I'm not even going to say brown thumb because every houseplant I've ever had ended up looking like I deep-fried it. :sosorry:
I LOVE plants, though, and I want some for inside. What are some really, really, really HARDY houseplants?

Pothos (http://www.aboutflowers.com/gandb/pothos.html)...nearly impossible to kill. And if you do nearly kill them, they're glad to come back to life.
I'm not sure how to keep them looking gorgeous full and fluffy, but here's one that I've had for well over 10 years. I water it when I think about it.

That's EXACTLY what I was going to suggest. Plants shudder when they see me coming. The one above the desk is quaking at this moment. But while other plants choose suicide over living in my household (it must be suicide, it's the only thing that makes sense) for some reason the pathos has not yet slit its stalks. It's entirely possible it has masochistic leanings though. I'm not discounting anything.

I had no luck with pathos.
So far the only thing I have kept alive is my money tree, and I don't know how.
Sometimes I can keep a cactus alive for about a year before it dries out and shrivels beyond repair.
