I knit so loosely. So much so that I've gone down FOUR needle sizes to attempt to get the correct one for the Philosopher's Wool Stars sweater. But I'm still a half-stitch under, which will make the sweater even bigger than it is. (The smallest size is 40"). OMG. I cannot knit this sweater on size 2's which I think is what it's going to take. :knit: :banghead: :knit::banghead::knit::banghead::knit:

But the more I read the Philosopher's way of doing sweaters, the less I like it, so I may just scrap their pattern but follow the chart for the fair isle, but use a pattern that I know works.

:mouthfull:sick::wtf::help:

:bliss::bliss:
I'm only putting that one in because it's so darn cute.

UGH!

And I thought I knit loose! Yikes. (laughing with you, not at you)

If you're not liking the pattern, I'd definitely make life easier on yourself and go with something you know works and use a gauge you can actually attain without using toothpicks.

I can never freaking get gauge either. I feel your pain.

I've had the yarn store gal alter a pattern for me before to make it smaller - they have software.

Heh, I know you're laughing with me. Only another knitter would understand. What I find so funny is teaching the kids at school to knit- I see their work and think it's so tight, but chances are they're spot on. Gauge is a necessary evil, as much as I hate fussing with it.

I think I'll use the IK grand plan chart and tweak it if I have to.

I wonder what the program is. I've done it before with a calculator and time, but wow, that would be so cool to have a program to just convert it. :banana:

Oh no! I *always* drop down two needle sizes, but four?? Holy cow. :dunno:

I do loooove the stars; you're a smart chicky, I'm SURE you can adapt it to another pattern.:knit:

Ok just shoot me now- I started a sleeve (at least they recommend starting sleeves first!) and my gauge is now a half stitch over- so I'm going up to size 5's. If that doesn't work then I'm giving up.
