I know some have posted about PTSD in the past. I need to learn more about it and would love any YAAPers recommendations. I know some here recommended EDMR (is that the right order for those letters? lol) to others. Any book recommendations/links, etc?

Thanks in advance!

Link to a good book:
http://www.amazon.com/Waking-Tiger-Transform-Overwhelming-Experiences/dp/155643233X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1202770703&sr=1-1

EMDR is the right order and can be helpful for PTSD.

Hugs,

Rach

Here's a link to info about EMDR:

http://www.emdrnetwork.org/description.html

My partner went through the therapy & says it helped him & he no almost never complains about weird/disturbing dreams. He used to work as a paramedic & firefighter & even though he was proud of his work, it still had disturbing aspects. He worked in those fields in the 80s when they weren't counselling the workers...

Thanks in advance!

Hope this helps!

I also like Waking the Tiger and other books by Peter Levine on trauma.
His therapy is Somatic Experiening. I'd do that before EMDR. HOnestly, though...I found body approaches to be something I was unable to think about doing right away; it was way too scary and I had to work on the trauma cognitively and emotionally and with a good conherent narrative first. Levine doesn't think you have to though, but everyone is different.

A good cognitive/emotional approach can be found in this book, which I found to be very good:

If you need more resources, let me know. I'm on sporadically, so if I don't see your post, email/pm me.
