My husband thinks I'm weird because I love sliced avacado on toast sandwiches (with mayo and salt).

He thinks avacado is ONLY good if it's made into guac.

How do you like yours?

I like it in ANYTHING! LOL

Reya eats hers by cutting it in half, removing the pit and adding salt and pepper. She eats it right out of the shell with a spoon:yum:

yup to both of you!

Cut up in salads, in sandwhiches, alone with salt, on bagels or rice cakes with cream cheese and salt.

YUM!

I like it:

sliced an put on toast that's been drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice
in sushi
chunks in salads
straight out of the shell, either with a spoon or scooped out with tortilla chips
on tacos
on a grilled cheese sandwich
and of course, guacamole!!

Lemon juice, pepper and Lawry's seasoned salt, just kind of lightly mashed in the bowl. Avocados are so expensive here. I got 2 on sale last week and ate them up.

I love avocados, which is funny because I hated them when I was a kid.

I like them in guacamole, sliced in sandwiches, mashed mixed with lemon and salt and smeared on bread, in salads, on tacos and burritos, in shakes at my favorite Vietnamese sandwich shop, and just eaten plain with a spoon.

I also like it when they are about ten cents each, in Chile. :)

there are so many different ways; two of my favorites are to scoop a generous helping of chipolte mayo into the hole and eat and fresh with chipoltes (hmmm...sensing a theme here) on a fresh, piping hot tortilla. I've started making my own tortillas and even tried direct from the kernel (but I really need a food processor to do it right).

I love avacados! I miss picking my own in HI.... no, I will not go on another "I miss Hawaii" rant now :p The funny thing though, is for some reason I DON'T like guac!! I will eat avacado plain, just sliced and eaten. I like it on sandwiches, especially turkey and swiss, or veggiewiches. I love it in wraps. It compliments bacon well so I love this one at a place here- the california BLT. It's a croissant with cream cheese, avacado, bacon, lettuce and tomato. I chop it and put it on nachos. I love it in tacos. Great on salads. I just don't like guacamole!

Oh a friend in TX was telling me about some taco chain down there where you can get a deep fried avacado??!! She said it's filled with some kind of meat, rolled in a cheese type topping and deep friend and swears its heavanly.

I LOVE LOVE that pic of your little guy (the avatar). And it goes so perfectly well with your username. He really does look pensive in that picture.

And I will eat them in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train. And in a car. And in a tree. They are so good, so good, you see!

:p

I love them any which way I can possibly think up to eat them. Some of my favorite breakfast meals involve avocado:

Eggs Benedict, minus Canadian bacon, add tomato and avocado. :yum:

Cheese omelet with refried beans, sliced avocado, sour cream and salsa. Holy cow that's delicious.

I'll eat avacado any way I can. I love it. :) I just wish we lived somewhere that I could have a tree. If we ever moved to such a place it may be requirement when searching for a home. An avacado tree in the yard.

Slice it open, salt it, yum. And the kids are all over me when I have an avocado in my hands.

OMG I adore avocado. When I worked for the Windstorm office in Corpus, the guys would get burritos for breakfast. I'd get the avocado one. A torilla wrapped around yummy avocado. MMmmm. I love it in salad, on toast, with chicken, on steak, chopped up with tomato and some ranch dressing, plain with a spoon scooped from the skin.

You know dh thought he didn't like avocados. He was wrong. He loves avocado but doesn't like guac. LOL Last time I opened one up, he snagged half of it. The thief.

YOU WANT WEIRD? I've got weird right here. SUGAR!!

I love sprinkling sugar over avocado. :yum:

I LOVE avocado pie (kind of a cheesecakey green avocado pie)

How did I come to like it with sugar? Well, when I was a kid in Virginia, avocados were unheard of. Mom brought one home one day and told me it was a fruit, but we weren't sure how to eat it. We tasted it and I didn't like it at all. Wasn't sweet like fruit should be.

So, I put some sugar on it. YUM! loved it. It's how I like them now.

LOL

Austin has a place called Trudy's which serves a stuffed avocado. It's stuffed with cheese and chicken, breaded and fried, and OH SO GOOD.

I can't eat them anymore...that weird banana/melon allergy makes avocados cause the same reaction.

Green egg = avocado?

Makes complete sense to me!

That sucks! Those are all delicious foods!

I am very unhappy that I can't ever eat nectarines/peaches again. :sob: They are so delicious, it's just not right. What I SHOULD have a strong allergic reaction to is Cinnamon Melts from McD's. Those my body accepts but heaven forbid it accepts a delicious and nutritious nectarine. :eyes:

What's the connection with bananas, melons and avocados? Why does a reaction to one cause a reaction to another?

I have an allergy to nectarines and have opted to not have peaches because quite frankly I assume they are too similar. But I've not heard of a melon/banana/avocado connection.

It's called Oral Allergy Syndrome (http://www.calgaryallergy.ca/Articles/English/Oral_Food_Allergy.htm)--I have the ragweed kind, and apparently so does Tracy--and it's not fair. (Okay, I realize a lot of people have much worse allergies and sensitivities that affect many more foods, but still!)

I have a hard time getting in enough fruits and vegetables because they don't appeal to me, really...except bananas because they're so easy, and melons because they're so delicious and you can cut up a whole one and have fruit for the whole week. :(

I agree, why don't I get some weird hive-y reaction to HFCS instead? Darnitall!

Edited to add: The website doesn't mention avocados, but I know from experience that I get the exact same reaction.

Interesting.. My mother says cantelope & bananas make the back of her throat itch. I've also noticed, recently, a "burny" feeling in my mouth when I eat bananas and avacados. My nose runs, too (nice, huh?), like it does when I've eaten dairy.

However, it's nothing like when I eat olive oil, that is MUCH worse, my lips tingle and swell and my throat feels tight. I never thought the banana and avacado thing was an allergy.. I just thought they were acidic or something.

But I've also heard there is a connection between and latex allergy and bananas - I'm allergic to latex. My mom and I also have seasonal allergies.. so there's that connection as well.

Mmmm. Sliced in half, pit removed, *tons* of lemon juice and salt.

Or sliced into a sandwich.
Or guac.
Or in salad.

Really - any way you want to serve it to me - I'll eat it.
(I've never tried sugar though.. I'll have to attempt it sometime, though I find them quite sweet and creamy, so I'm not sure I'll like it.)

I like mine sliced with salt and pepper or in guacamole-made with tomatoes, onions, maybe cilantro and salt and pepper. I'll eat guacamole made in other ways, but that way is my favorite.
I do like avocados in salads and on sandwiches. I'm not sue if I've had them other ways.

I'm not sure exactly but it's also connected to having a latex allergy...Which I also have! Gah. (nt)

Mine started out just like that and has progressed ('cause I didn't even realize what it was for a very long time) into where my throat feels tight and my sinuses feel clogged and my ear canals itch...really not pleasant.

I was just reminded that freaking celery does the same :censored: thing, too, as I sat here snacking on some celery sticks. :gross: :sob:
