Oh, I hear you Elizabeth. I received my membership on 9/21/07, and it took a yaaps-collapse to finally motivate me to figure it out, LOL. I spent superbowl Sunday inventorying my far-too-large yarn stash & uploading it all. It all became pretty easy after that. I would upload a yarn and *poof* there would be a link to click that would take me to other projects that had been knit using that same yarn. Or, I would enter one of my FO's and *poof* there was a link that would take me to pictures of all of the other items that had been knit using that same pattern.

Pretty soon, I'm lost in a chain of willy-nilly link clicking. Ahhhh. All sorts of fiber-y goodness. :D

Yes, she is Artemis here still, though I haven't seen her here since the switch. I started using Artemis most places somewhere around my first VBAC, so it was funny when she started using it too.

I adore those little chullos, and they are so easy. I'm working on a third for my friend's baby, which I need to enter into my project list. :p

I believe it is entirely time-dependent -- i.e., they're going down the waiting list in strict chronological order. It didn't take long for me to "get in" and (obviously :p) I'm not on any cool-kids list. Nor do I have a blog, and I only now have a flickr account so I can show off my knitting at Ravelry. So, I don't think it's a popularity contest. I just like looking at other people's projects and wishing I could do that, too....

Oh no - it's not a sorority system! On the home page they explain it a little. Basically, they are slowly adding members every day so that their system doesn't get overwhelmed. Let me see if I can find a link....

3. Why is this site not open to everyone? Are you being snobby or what?
We are inviting people in bits and pieces- not because we want it to be exclusive but because we only have one Casey code monkey to keep up with updates and bugs! We are still building the site and do not want it to blow up on you guys. So if you do post about Ravelry on your blog, please let everyone know we are adding new folks as quickly as we can from the invitation waiting list... we certainly do not want to come off as non-inclusive. More information can be found here and you can check how we are progressing with your invite here. Everyone really is welcome on Ravelry!

At ravelry I think you can sign up for an invite. I think it exploded in popularity and you had to wait to get in based on when you signed up.
