Do the titles of the replies show up?

Oh, they do, but just barely...

And whoa hey, we have to wait 30 seconds. That's going to slow me down. :p

if you change your preference to threaded view you can see the titles pretty clearly and for me it shows up automatically....

If someone puts a title in it should show up right away.

Otherwise, from what I saw for the few moments I had threaded or hybrid mode turned on earlier today, it was picking up the first part of the post as the title. That looked great to me. I haven't been putting titles in on my responses.

I'm not sure what it picks up when there's a quote above the text--I simply haven't had a chance to look yet.

In the linear mode the title is so small you don't even notice it.

...I know, I think this is what someone (Tasia?) said about "if people use it as threaded mode..." because if people post one liners that the whole thing doesn't show up in the threaded mode, it makes it basically impossible to read in threaded mode.

I may not be making a lot of sense... lol.

No, I know exactly what you mean. I've gotten so used to linear that that's how I'm reading things. You'll all probably notice I quote a lot in this format because that's what I've gotten used to. If I'm going to respond to someone, I hit quote. It keeps it clear who I'm replying to.

I don't get it. What do you mean?

Often in linear forums, people just hit the "post reply" button so their response not only ends up on the bottom of the thread, but it also doesn't get threaded in if someone is viewing the thread in threaded or hybrid mode. These options are available to check out if you are in a thread and then click on "Thread Tools."

I'm noticing that if I actually quote a single person, it threads my post in in those modes.

It's probably much clearer if you actually see the different display options. HTH!

This is too much for my little head to take in. Actually everything has confused me tonight so maybe I should go to bed.

I think hybrid works great because you see the threaded mode, but its all preloaded below so theres none of that annoying lag trying to open each post.

Oh, is that the 30 second lag thing you were talking about somewhere else?

Nope, there is a 30 second flood control, if you try to post a new post less than 31 seconds after the prior one it gives you an error message and says to wait 30 seconds.

LOL, oh, ok. I guess I just never type that fast.

You actually don't have to quote the person to thread it in when you're reading in linear mode. You only have to hit the little "quick reply" icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the post to which you want to reply. Then it threads you in so those of us who like threaded or hybrid can figure out to whom you're replying.

If you just hit the gigantic "Post Reply" button at the bottom of all the replies it sticks you at the bottom.

A handy tip, too, is when you're looking at a forum and it's bold (meaning there's something you haven't read, there) if you click the little blue 'down arrow' button to the left of the thread title, in linear mode it will bring you to that post (and then all subsequent posts will be below it).

That was the thing it took me forever to figure out on other similar forums...I kept having to scroll through everything I knew I'd read to get to the new stuff!

However, if someone is reading linearly (ugh, try to say that one fast) it's helpful to have things quoted so someone knows who others are talking to.

That's just how I'm used to seeing linear boards. I'm sure it'll all wash out as we all get used to all the different bells and whistles. :)

See, that's helpful for you to say, because since I don't usually use linear, I wouldn't be thinking of it from that point of view.

Seems like since we have different views, the hybrid/threaded people need to be sure to quote if there'll be any doubt (for the linear readers) and the linear people need to try not to just hit the big green "post reply" button which leaves them at the bottom and unthreaded (for the threaded readers) LOL!

Or. . .we'll all just figure it out anyway LOL! I think we're just so giddy to be talking to each other on a real message board again nobody's going to complain about anything.

I think if everyone just hits the quote button it will make it easy on everyone no matter their viewing style. But I can see how quick reply would be easy because you can still see the thread above you. I'm getting myself into the habit, though, of using quote so that it's easy on various users.

I thought of that... but what if it's really a loooong post? LOLI just delete the parts that I don't want to quote... I mean, not in a "making it sound like someone said something they didn't" way :p but just to get to the part that's interesting. (I usu. replace it with ... so it's obvious that there's something gone.)

If it's a long one putting it after what you say would make it even more confusing for those of us whose coffee is still brewing! :spinning:

It's really nice that in the New Posts, once you've looked at that one post, it marks it. (that is, as long as you don't use your back button to get there... although it's still marked, but you'd have to refresh the page)

No more marking! Yay! :wackybounce:
