I found this wonderful site/manual and I'm ordering this for my next parenting class/group.

My group will be comprised of moms who are in recovery from drug/alcohol addiction. They are beginning the process and currently in residential treatment with their aged 0-5 babies/children.

I thought I'd pass on this link in case any of you know of someone who might benefit. :-) It is really wonderful in that it doesn't just give alternative punishments to hitting/spanking...it gives real positive parenting skills.

And weird...I didn't know when I got into my program that I'd be teaching parenting classes/groups. Attachment and awareness in parenting and positive discipline have been passions of mine since I've had R, but I went into being a therapist for other reasons. It's kinda cool how things have a way of happening. :-)

Another strange phenomena has been happening lately as well...toddlers have been drawn like magnets to me. They approach me without fear in just about every setting lately, whether it's at R's school, the park, where I work, the mall, etc. It's actually a bit unnerving now that it's been happening so regularly. I'm not sure what to make of it.

That's so cool -- very important work!

Even knowing the tools, using them is a challenge for me, and I assume for others. In the moment, fear can take over so easily. If I'm not big and scary, they won't listen and remember. I must take control of this other person or else! I'm not sure that a parenting class is the place for that kind of therapy, exactly, but I think that it's an important part of helping parents to use the tools once they know them.

It's really neat when life comes round full circle like that, isn't it? I can't think of a better person to mentor these women in something she's so good at, either .

That is really neat about the toddlers, too .
