We had one at the old board, and I miss it.
Sadly, I don't remember any of them, and Aidan asked me for some smoothies this week for breakfast.
So, post away!!! LOL!!
Thank you!!

I will be stalking this thread for recipes - why didn't I realize there was one at the old yaaps? LOL!
However, I make smoothies every day, sometimes twice, and this is my basic formula for two glasses of smoothie:
8 ounces of liquid - soymilk or if we're out or running low, I'll use juice.
Two frozen bananas (I just buy four bunches of bananas at the store, and peel them all and freeze them in a gallon ziploc. I then break them up into three or four pieces and throw them into the blender).
Blend until smooth, then add:
(Optional) protein powder
Any other nutrients you want them to have - flax oil, for example, or coconut oil, or nutritional yeast, or whatever.
Veggies! About 1/2-to-1 cup cooked veggies. I hide all manner of veggies - I either cut them up small and steam them and keep them in the friggie, or in a pinch I open up a can of veggies. This is the only way my son will eat a vegetable, period, so since Aidan eats his veggies you may want to leave this part out LOL!
Frozen fruit - I buy it by the bagful at Trader Joe. I notice they also have it at Kroger by the ice cream, but it's waaaaay more expensive there. If I'm hiding veggies, I use dark colored ones like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries. I add this last and just keep adding through the little hole in the blender lid until the smoothie is thick enough.

Off the top of my head at the store I bought
Vanilla soymilk
frozen strawberries
frozen mixed berries
I was thinking soymilk+ banana+ some frozen fruit = smoothie
I had forgot about the protein powder!!
and LOL, yes, Aidan eats pretty much everything. By 11am this morning he had already eaten a banana, an apple, 2 clementines and a handful of snow pea pods!! (and a yogurt)
I'm def passing on the veggie idea to my friend though, who's kids won't eat anything that isn't nugget shapped!

I don't really have a set recipe ... I just throw whatever frozen fruit I have on hand, (right now I'm loving strawberries and frozen pineapple!) some ground flax seeds, often I'll throw in some baby spinach or cooked carrots and either soymilk, water or juice depending upon who the smoothie is for!lol!

You don't need the protein powder - I only put it in if they've been light on protein lately.
Freeze some bananas, though, definitely - I've found the texture isn't quite right with bananas that are room temp.
You can make it with 8 oz soymilk, two frozen bananas, and then enough berries to make it slushy (feed them several at a time through the hole while the blender is going).
And like I said, these aren't fancy though they are yummy. I'll be stalking this thread for the fancy recipes.

My staples for a smoothie are a frozen banana and some rice milk. I also love to add a soy yogurt if we have any, some frozen berries (strawberries are my favorite, but blueberries are good -- I don't like raspberries or blackberries because they are too "seedy" for me) and a squirt of flax seed oil adds a nice smooth/creamy quality.
Once I made a banana/rice milk smoothie with a coffee flavored soy yogurt, which I was worried would be gross but which turned out awesome.

Is there an actual definition of a smoothie? I just throw in whatever I have and declare it a smoothie. :D Frozen strawberries + a can of peaches (w/o sugar) = one of the kids' favorites. Frozen berries + yogurt + milk = Nick's favorite until we had to reduce his dairy. Fresh fruit + ice cubes + a stealth carrot + whatever...
I think of a smoothie as a random mixture of fruit/veg and liquid. Maybe I've been doing it wrong all this time! {gasp} :smack:wackybounce:
