I'm making a lace scarf. It says to block with wires. I've never done that before and I can't find how to do it on the Internet too. Anyone here know how to do it?

Blocking wires are a product available for sale, though I've never seen them in person. They're kind of like long, thin sticks, some of which can be a meter long, even. You use them to form the shape of your shawl (triangles, rectangles, use a lot to make a circle) by poking them through the outermost loops to stretch your work into shape while it's wet.

Very cool, very effective, and makes for very uniform shape as opposed to pins.

They're on my wishlist. :loveit:

They're on my wish list, too. In the meantime, I either use a million straight pins along each edge to keep things straight, or run a line of strong thread through each edge and pull it tight. The latter is smarter, but I usually use a million pins and keep fussing until things look straight.

thick fishing line will accomplich the same thing and then using fewer straight pins to hold it in place.

You can also get very thin, um, I can't remember what they're called but electricians use them, at a hardware store. You have to clean them well because they have black stuff on them LOL! They look like very skinny dowel rods but made of metal.

Muuuuuch cheaper than blocking wires and they do the exact same thing.
