I'm trying to find new music for my ipod which mysteriously stopped communicating with my pc in December, and then just as myseriously re-started communicating with it last week. I want to load new songs during the time it's still working, lol. :D

Can you share with me 5 songs that you really enjoy listening to -- they can be your 5 favorite songs, or just any five random songs that you really like, or your 5 most recent downloads, or most often played songs lately -- your choice :loveit: :spinning:

Here is my completely random 5, based upon what I've been listening to lately:

1) U2 - WildHoney. There has to be a U2 song in my list, and this is one of my all time favorite U2 songs.

2) Bruce Springsteen -- Mary's Place from The Rising. This song has such great energy, it always puts me in a good mood.

3) One Day by KT Tunstall -- I got this song as a free download from starbucks and really like it.

4) Boys Don't Cry by the Cure -- Love the Cure. I love how they take really depressing moments and turn them into catchy tunes.

5) Little Polveir by Monkey Swallows the Universe -- Margie recommended this band to me on the old yaaps and they have a great sound.

Okay, your turn! :p

2. Habanera (Carmen Suite No. 2)
3. Other Side of the World - KT Tunstall
4. Violin Sonata in A Minor (I *think* that's what it's called; I heard it on satellite radio in the car the other day and I was really moved by how sad the violin sounded. I plan to download.)

A few mellow picks:

1) Blue Merle - If I Could. They played this song on a Friday Night Lights episode a month or two ago and I've loved it ever since. It's got a great vibe.

2) Bebel Gilberto - All Around.

3) Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now (from the Love Actually soundtrack). Heartbreaking version.

4) Santana/John Lee Hooker - The Healer. Fell in love with this song in my junior year of college (aided by my affections for a certain Kiwi soccer player who loved it, too), and recently downloaded it and love it all over again.

5) Amp Fiddler and Corrinne Bailey Rae - If I Don't.

Scar by Papa Roach
Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas
In the Sun by Joseph Arthur

Hrm, I had meant this to be a completely random list, but it seems to be all "S" songs... that was weird.

OK, here are 5 I really like that you might really like.

Madeleine Peyroux- You're Going to Make Me Lonesome When You Go

I Confess by the English Beat. Pure sexiness to me.

Have to put something by Natalie Merchant in here cause just recently I was thinking how much I like her voice. How about Wonder.

Anything from the Once soundtrack. Try Falling Slowly and go from there. Damn good movie too.:hearts:

Ack, down to number 5. OK, I love the Decemberists. All of the Decemberists. But I'll go with We Both Go Down Together.

And a bonus 6th just cause it is so damn beautiful I have to share it. Listen and weep.

OK, I'm cheating and editing to add one more. I just heard this band the other night and I really like this song. 2080 by Yeasayer. You can hear it here:

So much. Its the one band I am heartbroken to have never seen live. I have been begging dh to learn just *one* song (he plays guitar). For some reason he hasn't gotten to it yet

Yael Naim - New Soul

I have Far, Far by Yael Naim. I really like it. I think it was a freebie from Amazon or Itunes which is how I found it. Sometimes they really have good music as their freebie and I like hearing new music that way.

Home by Michael Buble'

Shut the F*ck Up by Cake (not the official title)

Oh I love Rufus Wainwright's version, I get that swelled up tears in my eyes, chest is going to explode with emotion feeling when I hear it :-)

Sometimes I'm not in a "Rufus mood" - he can get a little whiny sounding, but I could listen to Hallelujah anytime, just pause my day for it.

Me too, that's in storage somewhere. And I also really used to love Fishbone "the Reality of My Surroundings" (e.g. "Sunless Saturday"). They had a similar musical style but they were a bit more explicit. Actually, they were very explicit and very angry. Ah, high school...

I heard of her on Perez Hilton a couple of months ago (actually I've discovered quite a few things that way). I joined her email list and got two free songs that way and have been waiting impatiently for more. Then I saw she was on iTunes. That's great exposure for her.

The fact that not only do your 14 yo and I also share the same taste in "literature", but also music is kind of scaring me... and I probably shouldn't mention how much those posts about her and her older boyfriend reminded me of myself at that age

Just five? lol

From my happy list (in other words, there are lots of other songs I love, but these are not depressing)

1 Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order
2 Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
(not necessarily their best song, but most of their lyrics are inappropriate around the kids so I don't listen nearly as often as I'd like)
3 Close to Me - The Cure
4 The Concept - The Cranberries
5 In the Meantime - Spacehog (brings back my teens)

Have you heard Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major? Penny Simkin uses it as background music in one of her videos (her daughter is playing it). I just love it. http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Yo-Yo-Johann-Sebastian-Bach/dp/B00005OAY5/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1203691494&sr=8-30

I had entirely forgotten about New Order until about a year ago when my brother and I were talking about music and he said that this one CD of theirs used to be mine and I listened to it all the time. I did not remember that at all, I actually kinda argued with him about it, swore up and down that I didn't even know their music. I think I was attributing their music to Erasure in my mind, but anyway, then he played it for me and I was like, "ooooh!" And now I'm all over it again. Nothing like rediscovering stuff from the past. LOL I get into pretty much anything in that genre though.
