What do I send? There's no theme, but I know 1) he doesn't want to take tamales ;-) and 2) You don't win friends with Sal-ad

I don't know if this will be a popular choice but I like to go really simple. I'd chill a watermelon and cut it into pieces and put them in a big bowl. Yum!

Or maybe I'm just obsessed with watermelon this time of year.

How about a batch of Melanie/Ahnyx's Chicken Wings (http://www.yaaps.com/forums/showpost.php?p=53904&postcount=12)? They've been a big hit with a crowd every time I've made them! Super, super easy to make too. (And cheap, as meat stuff goes.)

See, now I *always* take either a salad or something vegetable or fruit-ish, since almost nobody brings them to any potluck otherwise. Lots of meats/proteins, starches (potato salads, breads, pasta salads, etc.), and desserts...but often nary a piece of produce to be found. And people usually thank me!

Yup! We have a "dessert potluck" after every Shabbat service, and I'm known far and wide as the "fruit and veggie mom."

OMG me too, Reya and I tore through 1/2 of one today by ourselves! :bag:

Me too, but the last couple of salads I sent didn't go over well. :nono:

My standby for potlucks is something my MIL called "schnitzel beans"

Its kind of a sweet and sour, hot bacon dressing type green bean dish thats super easy and very yummy. I think I've posted it before, but here's the recipe:

4 cans green beans -drained, 6 slices of bacon, 1 onion chopped, 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup sugar (I sometimes use more but keep the proportions 1:1)

fry bacon until very crisp, remove from pan and crumble - set aside.

into the bacon grease add vinegar and sugar, stir until sugar is dissolved.

Add beans, onion, and bacon - bring to a boil briefly, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20 mins - the longer it simmers the better it tastes!
