Thank you!!! My wallet is taking a beating, but I am excited about some projects I have to work on. :p
I went ahead and bought a dress form. It came yesterday. I'm working on a Vogue wrap dress first. Wish me luck, everyone!

I adore that site!
What vogue pattern did you get? I have been really thinking about attempting a vogue pattern. I've gotten to the point I can look at most pattern pieces and put them together without reading instructions  so i think i'm ready for vogue patterns.
Did you drool all over the purse patterns? Amy Butler, I think is the brand.
And if you are serious about breaking your bank, go to www.sewmamasew.com. the blog there is AWESOME, too

It was the Vogue wrap dress. I don't remember the number, but it was a favorite on patternreview. I haven't even started looking at bags yet LOL!

I'm going to make that wrap dress too! Vogue patterns are on sale this week at JA, I think from Thursday to Saturday. Micki, it's pattern 8379. Oh, and you're welcome, Sarah. :)

Vogue patterns rock! Seriously, if you can manage to make up something from Simplicity or Butterick or McCall's and not pull your hair out, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much the pattern instructions actually make sense. Oh, and the pattern pieces almost always fit together properly, too. I find that particularly endearing.
I made up the Amy Butler High Street messenger bag as a going back to school present. Pain in the butt (oh, my, were there ever a lot of pieces and I ended up taking out a lot of the cotton duck she calls for and subbing stiff interfacing instead on the outer pieces), but I lurve my bag and would gladly make up another one. I should get pictures of it someday when I'm not studying :goodidea:.

it's got my vote!
I have to wait til Friday to get the pattern tho. I really like it.
Collars scare me tho. I also have yet to master an FBA on a wrap. I'll probably just leave it and wear a shell like i normally do.
Today, I made my first burda pattern. I think it's one Jeb sent. I had bigger issues with my machine than the pattern. I can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong with the blasted thing. Something is messing up the tension and I can't get it right. I'll be sewing along fine then it jams on me.
It's an inexpensive used machine that's 7 years old. A tune up will run me about $70 and new machine with more bells and whistles $140.

So here's my next question. Where does one get nicer fabrics to make these things out of. I didn't see anything at Joann's that floated my boat. I want some good quality fabric in cool prints dammit!

I was going to go back to patternreview.com, read the reviews for that dress and see where people bought their fabric. There might be an online fabric shop listing on that site too. Emmaonesock.com is one shop I've seen mentioned on pr.com a lot but I've never shopped there.

Yeah I die everytime I visit sewmamasew....
Does anyone else do this - fill shopping carts for fun then drool at the contents for a few days and then close them with a sigh.
I do it at Nearsea naturals and sewmamasew all the time.
