We have a ton of leftover cell minutes every month, thanks to having the free incoming calls, free mobile to mobile and free nights & weekends on our plan. We use our phones for business and may have 4000+ minutes, but only 600 are billed because of all the free calls.

I realized yesterday that it would save us money to get rid of our land line and add a third cell phone for occasional use to our plan instead. That way we have an extra phone to be at home with the sitter when we are both gone. I want to make sure that we get a sturdy phone, since this may also be sent along with Abigail if she is ever going somewhere that we would like her to have a cell phone. Obviously I am not going to get a Razr, LOL.

What are some sturdy phones? We have US Cellular if that makes a difference.

I found the most sturdy phones to be the No Moving Parts type. Nokia makes a good one. It's the only one I never managed to break :bag: LOL. Just a basic, front dial, slip in the pocket phone.

Which is not to say that's what I currently have . . . but I also know to buy insurance since I am not responsible with my phones.

We went with the free phone that wasn't a Flip or slider and it's held up quite well under similar circumstances. We've had it for 1 year.

nextels/motorola. they're as ugly as all get out but are really rugged. I believe they were designed for those in the construction trade. We have them because DH needs direct connect for work and sprint/nextel has the best coverage in our area.

Outside of going with the nextel radio/phones (built for construction trades) DH says Nokias really hold up well, especially the basic non-moving parts kind Mandi mentioned. DH's old company wouldn't do the nextell thing, but he had to have a phone for work as if it were a handtool - his Nokia kept going like the energizer bunny where other guys on the job would go through razr after razr - fancy phone after fancy phone. He's dropped it in paint, from 20+ feet in the air (yes it broke apart into all different pieces, but he puzzled it back together and it kept working), it's been dropped in our pond, washed, and who knows what else. It doesn't look pretty after all of that, but it sends and recieves calls and the camera still works, LOL! I'll ask him the specific modle number when I talk to him next. But he's always going on and on about how Nokia makes the most durable phones (outside of those nextell things, of course)

Yep. I have a very, very cheap Motorola that I bought specifically because it's very sturdy. Let's just say my phone gets dropped a lot. It has held up really well and doesn't have even a scratch on it after 6 months of use.
