Jade, who is 9 1/2, has finally started reading! Really reading! To herself! AND to me. Actual chapter books, even. I discovered she likes comics. So I started searching the library catalog for comics and comic strips, and graphic novels. One of the books I ordered was not a comic strip, though it has some drawings in it. It is the "Pony-Crazed Princess" series, and she has read more than FIVE chapter books this week! OMG!

I swear, I thought this day would never come. I LOVE to read, but she had such a hard time with her vision, which made learning to read so unpleasant.... Yet, her she is, begging for more! WOOHOO!!!

For some kids it's almost like the cork popped out of a bottle when they first start to read. Alex was like that. She started reading early on but wasn't too interested until pop!One day she started reading a chapter book and she consumed book after book after that.
