One of my other parenting boards uses this same vB format and there are some cool features i was hoping we coudl have here :)

First, quick reply enabled in linear mode.

Second, the smilies...there is a hack or whatever that will allow each user to put their top 20 smilies for easy access in the smiley toolbar. that would be really nifty.

third...this is probably dependent on server size/space but there is an arcade feature. like we need more time to spend here, but whatever ;)

However I don't USE quick reply, so maybe that wasn't what you were talking about.

in linear mode, you have to click on another button to activate quick reply instead of just clicking in the box. I'd rather just click in teh box.

Quick reply is available in linear, but you have to click on the post to which you are replying so that it will show up in the correct place for people reading in threaded mode.

I actually plan to do the Favorite Smilies thing tomorrow morning when I shut down the forums briefly to upload our blog feature. It's a file overwrite too, so I figured I'd do them at the same time. So that's already in the pipe.

I am unfamiliar with the arcade feature, but will research it.

I'll just say that I'm trying to make it work for both types of viewers...I quote so the linear people can tell who I'm talking to (really really weird looking responses if people don't do that) and even if I don't want to quote someone, I make sure I DO use a reply button somewhere in the thread so the threaded people can tell who I'm replying to.

I believe that is the general idea, yes. That smiley has been around forum-dom for years and years, and is a common one to stand in for Gettin' Some. (Maybe that would be a better title? LOL . . . )

Not that I've really seen a better one . . . but it always looks like the one on the left is taken by surprise, and the one on the right is sneaking up on it LOL.

I don't think Mandi enabled the "clickless" QR... just that she added in the requested Smilie.

IMO, I think the "Click-First" Quick Reply should remain. It's been hard enough for some people to get used to the new format and have the posts go where they are intended. I think it's something that would be better if revisited at a later date. JMO.
