You know the arts magnet high school K wants to go to next year? I got an email from the vice principal...

It is usually July before they actually notify people but you should just plan on attending Northwest on the first day of school. My placement specialist is out this week but I'll try to get something confirmed to put your mind at ease when she returns. Thanks for checking.

I got an official "Woot!" from K when I read that to her.

Yes! I was pretty sure it would work out but it was always this little niggling thing, especially because every day when I talk to my dad on the phone he asks if we've heard yet!

That's great! Please, continue with the play by play, I"m finding it thrilling.
K should consider a rock opera on the subject. :P "How I got into High School and Banned from Wikipedia"
But seriously, that is awesome news. What a relief that must be. Congratulations.

Oh, but Jody, you don't bore me. You INSPIRE me.
Thank you for being so open about your school issues - it helps me even if I am mostly a silent observer.
THANK YOU!

Thanks, you guys! Now I can stop worrying about her getting in and start worrying about her going from a totally protected tiny private school to a very urban public school! Gulp!

It's sort of like when your pregnant! You understand that you could go to 42 week or longer and know it will happen. But when people call you everyday, it doesn't help you remain patient.

Congrats to K. I am so happy to hear she has the opprotunity!

LOL! She will do fine. She has a good head on her shoulders and good parents to help her process. Do you know any kids who will be in her grade next year? Especially nice, interesting, straight (not sexually!) ones that you can make sure she meets and hangs with over the summer? There is going to be exposure to stuff in any high school at some point (says the mom whose daughter observed the filling and smoking of a bong this year). It will help if she has a peer group that supports her values.

I don't think I know any kids who will be in 9th grade. I do know a couple who will be in 10th and up. They're all good, straight-arrow (again, not necessarily sexually) kids.

Although she's been in this totally protected environment, she is also very knowledgable (she's been described as worldy; I'm not sure it was a compliment!) because of her internet involvement. For once I'm glad of that!
