I posted a few months ago about how I had set up my treadmill in my closet, and I just wanted to update on how it's been going.
I am happy to say that I have used my treadmill approximately 4-6 times per week since moving it. I think it reflects my truly introverted nature that I feel most comfortable working out in what is a very cocoon-like environment, LOL.
What has also helped has been removing nearly every "barrier" to using the treadmill. I keep a pair of slip-on running shoes (that have never been used outside) on a shelf right next to the treadmill - no hunting around for my shoes or feeling the need to clean them off before using them, kwim? (And I purposely chose slip-ons because yes, sometimes tying my shoes just seems like too much effort. :-P) I keep my workout clothes in a set of stacking mesh cubbies, also right next to the treadmill. I have a stack of newspapers, magazines, and books on the shelf in front of my face. Basically, I just stumble out of bed in the morning, unfold the treadmill, slip on my shoes and clothes, and get to it.
I feel so good, and so much more engaged with life. I'm sleeping better, too, which is a small miracle in and of itself.
A few pics - you can have a good chuckle as you envision me pounding away every morning:
This is what it looks like from the outside, with the treadmill folded up; the treadmill is to the right (behind the open door):

Greg & I have made sure to look at the safety issues. We trimmed down a shelf that was immediately to the left of the door as you enter the closet so it's easier to enter/exit even with the treadmill unfolded. We rearranged a few things so the door opens as wide as possible, nothing is close to the moving belt, I have a good 5' clearance behind me when it's unfolded, etc.
The other thing I feel good about is that we are finally appreciating this crazy closet in our room. The ceiling slopes down as you enter the closet and the door is placed in an awkward place - there was always this sort of dead area back there that turned into the dumpyard for our unwanted stuff. It really makes me happy that I was able to put that "dead space" to good use!
