I'm trying to put the question first then the detailed story below...
Have you ever heard of a light brown discharge or staining in the diaper of a child (2.5 years) who is recovering from what you believe is a stomach bug? He has been eating little but nursing tons. No fever. The staining after pee smells kinda like egg shells, at least that is what it makes me think of. It is a creamy light brown and does not make me think of blood at all. The color looks like the color of that Aveeno Oatmeal bath.
Would you be freaking out? WOuld you think this warrants an emergency room trip? I'm pretty sure I can get into our family practice tomorrow.
He has been sleeping a little more than usual, but is in good spirits and active.
Details below:
L got sick Thursday night, vomiting and diarrhea. It was quite a lot. The next day he threw up 3 more times in the morning and had diarrhea 2x. He had primarily breastmilk and other fluids but little or no food Fri and Sat. Sat. night he had a looser stool 2x at night. Sunday he started eating more, and had loose stool that (last). I believe this is mainly the lack of food and increase in breastmilk. Most of his pees have been on the potty or in a diaper when he defecates.
He has not been running a fever during this time. I have not though he was dehydrated because he has been nursing a lot and asking for water here and there. I believe he caught stomach bug and it has been running through his system. (We had 3 gatherings last week w/ 3 different groups of kids).
Today we had him in diapers just in case his stool is loose. We had to get disposables because that first night he went though all the diapers. He peed a lot in that diaper and there was a creamy light brown discharge in the diaper and I thought it may of had something to do with the diaper... I put him in a cloth diaper and his last pee was heavy and there is that same color staining the diaper. No discharge you could pick up. This is only his second pee of the day (this is about 10 hours). He's nursed _a lot_ today and has had water.
