I think we're going to see huge price increases in food this year. We're getting super aggressive about our garden already.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. The increase over the past couple of months is staggering to me.

I think you're right, too. I have noticed a big difference in the recent past, even though I'm buying all the same items. I'm working extra hard on the garden as well, trying to get in some storage vegetables as well this year - things like onions, garlic, root vegetables, etc.

yes, our co-op just issued a rather large price hike in grains from their distributors. :(

if this isn't incentive to support food-providing charities, I don't know what is. I guess I feel awfully fortunate that I *can* afford food.

I have been hearing from store owners who prices are going up and up. The allergy-free/Celiac stores near us told us the prices go up weekly and they get charged an extra fee for oil, too.

Also, I feel prices were a lot higher when we moved to CT from Seattle and from our move prior to that from Maine to Seattle. Each move and i was shocked at what we were spending on groceries. I'm really going to work on $ saving methods to save. I am challenging us this week to just eat out of the fridge ad I was going to go to the store yesterday and couldn't and don't have time until the weekend. I last shopped I think a week ago so this should be interesting. I make a list of creative meal ideas. :) We used to do that all the time--we made due with what we had and spent very little. I think if I go back to that more even with prices up we won't necessarily spend more. And we are growing things for practical puproses this year as well as for fun. I chose veggie seeds with this in mind.

Yes, I agree. And it makes me especially glad to be supporting Heifer project, because they are so good at helping people become self-sufficient within their own environments.
