Luis and I are disagreeing over how common a term is, so I am looking to yaaps for my scientific poll. LOL
Do you use a specific phrase to describe it when someone is riding on the backseat of a motorcycle?

is that legal there? Wow, I'd never put my kids on a bike like that! (aside from the too many on the bike aspect, no shoes or helmets even? Bad, bad idea!)

ok,,,no answer yet on "bitch seat" or "p*ssy pad"

OK, I just asked DH and he said "something about bitch or sittin' bitch?" He hastened to add that it's a crude term and he'd never use it, "of course." :razzberry:

Thanks for all the replies. I guess "riding bitch" is more common than I thought and less common than he thought. He is the only one I have ever heard use that term, but he claims that that is the only term people use, probably because of all the years he spent working construction. Construction workers are not the most pc people, as a general rule. LOL

What they all said, but I refuse to say it. :p
Back in the day when I'd hitch rides on my friends bicycles (or vice versa), we called it Pump... as it "Hey, can you give me a pump down to Stacey's?)

Sorry but have to say my first boyfriend and also a very close high school friend both died in motorcycle accidents so I get a very bad feeling whenever the topic comes up and I hope any of you who ride are really careful.

{{{{Lisa}}}} I understand, and I share your concern. I have always thought that motorcycles seemed like they'd be super, duper FUN - but they just seem so risky to me, though I admit I sort of wish that I didn't see them that way. I have always felt this way, even though the only people I personally know who ride are extremely safety conscious (my uncle and my step dad and my friend's old bf)

Thanks. I rode a moped once and it *was* super fun. I rode with my former boyfriend--the one who died later in a motorcycle accident. My parents lectured me seriously for *two hours* when I got home and told them about the mopeds. They were very worried and insistent I never ride again. I thought they were overreacting extremely. I don't anymore! I hope D will never ride one. He will be free to choose but I sure hope he won't choose one.
i'm sure they can be super fun and also convenient, etc. But it just is common sense that if you are speeding down the road and get in an accident you can easily die or be very seriously injured. We worry about children falling from slides, etc, never mind a person going 65 mph.

Funny, we're opposite. I asked Mike, and he seriously has never heard that before. I grew up in the redneck, uh, southern part of our fair state, and that's all I ever heard!
Tangentially, do y'all use the term "shotgun" for sitting in the front passenger seat? As in yelling, "I call shotgun!" as you try to beat your siblings to the car?

Heck yeah!!! and "touchsies" don't count, you actually have to say "SHOTGUN!"

Yeah, it's a different world down here. There have been no educational campaigns about this safety and you couldn't even BUY a carseat until last year. So, Mexico is playing catch-up in the safety awareness. Of course, when you earn $250 a month and the cost to simply REGISTER a car is $700+ a year, I think you can understand why many don't have cars.

For some reason in the military bikes are very popular as a second vehicle, I guess it is a good alternative for fuel reasons... I am personally scared of them. I have ridden before, but always with my stomach in my throat. Thankfully DH doesn't ride. We have SO many friends though who ride, and my brother has a Harley, it can scare me but I focus on the fact most riders don't die from it the same way most car drivers don't die in accidents. My brother is actually a county EMS Director so he has a lot of first hand experience with highway accidents and I decided awhile ago he wouldn't still ride after having this career, if it wasn't generally safe with proper precautions and training.

Not to spoil anyone's fun (so ignore this post if you love bikes!), but I feel very much the same way about motorcycles. I have never ridden one, but I know two people who died in motorcycle accidents through no fault of their own (one was my mom's co-worker who died when a truck collided with his bike at night; the driver didn't even see the bike's back light).
I get a very uneasy feeling when I see people on bikes, and I have seen a few close calls between bikes and cars/trucks--not just on the highway, but in stop-and-go town traffic.
I am all for agency and choice, but I personally will never ride a bike, and luckily my DH feels the same way.

Without looking at the rest of the thread - in NZ and the UK that would be called riding 'pillion' (rhymes with million).
