Was filling in at work as receptionist when I noticed I had a missed call on my cell- the nurse from E's school. He had been sitting in class taking notes, when his heart started beating erratically and he felt dizzy and it hurt to breathe. He started walking to the nurse and he had pain across his chest. At the nurse, she listened to his heart and had him lie down while she called me. Since I didn't answer, she checked his heart again, and it was still beating weird. After I talked to her and started driving up there, I called the doctor and she told me to go to a specific ER, and not the children's ER becuase the first one was better with cardiac things. They took him in right away and did the ecg and said it looked fine. THen we went and sat in the lobby for a while before they put him in a room. Ran bloodwork and did a chest xray. Forgot to send the bloodwork in so we waited longer. Some things were elevated, but not they did not see any evidence of clots (they said this would be rare, but wanted to check). DH's father had his first heart attack at age 42, so we were worried, but also figured the odds were good it wasn't anything. Because the school nurse heard the erratic beats, they want E to wear a monitor for a while to see what exactly it is. He had mentioned a weird heart beat a month or so ago, but no pain, and so we dismissed it, thought maybe it was from his adhd meds. His adhd doc didn't seem worried when we discussed it. E had lacrosse tryouts this week and had the same thing earlier in the week, but said the pain was about a 4, whereas Friday the pain was about an 8.

Keep your fingers crossed. I wondered if it was anxiety, but no one said they thought that was what it was.

{{{Kath}}} That's scary! FWIW, I've had irregular heartbeat & rapid heartbeat and dizziness etc and wearing a monitor didn't show anything concerning, and in my case I DO think it's anxiety-related.

(((((((((((((((((((((kath and Eric)))))))))))))))))

I just wanted to share something with you.

5 years ago I fainted and kripa and a friend put me in the car and drove me to the hospital bc when I came to, I was very out of sorts and confused for a while.

Something that had been happening that day was this very strange feeling in my heart, in the way it was beating, and I could kind of "correct" it if I coughed.

When we were there, they hooked me up tot he machine, saw the irregular beats, I coughed and they regulated right there. They said that it was a deficiency in potassium that can cause this.

I never *did* anything about it other than watch myself closely for a while after, with nothing exciting happening.

just thought i would share it with you.

(((Kath and Eric)))) It is good the school nurse saw this and they can kep an eye in the situation.

I hope it's anexity and it never comes back.

My friends 9 year old has an irregular (fast) heartbeat. He is on medication and is doing well! Now that the doctors know, he is in a much better situation. When it started happening a doctor or nurse never heard it because it was happenign at home. One day it happened a school, and now it's under control.
