My grandpap died 6 years ago March 1st. Today I was going through a box of stuff looking for something and I found the last card he sent to me, it must have been around Marnie's birthday it said "sorry this took me so long, as I get older it takes me longer to do things. Here's to a better '02. Love, Grandpap"
I don't know why I kept that card, but I'm so glad that I did. I've been a bittersweet, teary mess all day. I miss him so much. :sob:

(((Lynn))) I remember diligently saving letters when I became aware that my grandparents were on their way out. I haven't looked at them, but they will stay with me.

I totally understand. I kept an old appointment book of my mom's because it was written in her handwriting. Recipes too.

(((((Lynn)))) How wonderful you had such a nice relationship with your grandad. I wish I had been able to meet mine. They sounded like interesting men. :)

Handwriting is so distinctive and so personal. I received a letter in the mail from my mother after she died. Just seeing her handwriting was a jolt - so immediate! Like she was there! It was very hard to believe that she was gone. Even now, so many years after her death, I can feel her presence strongly when I see her handwriting.

I know what you mean. My Dad died 2 years ago. I inherited his book collection, and every time I see his name on the flyleaf, I am affected. It is good, though :)

Thanks you guys, I don't feel so alone or weird about it. Like Vicky said about it it being so distinctive- almost like voices. Big sigh..... :(

my dad sang happy birthyday to me on my cell phone last year. I saved it because it means so much to me, and someday he won't be around to sing to me. I need to figure out how to save it permanently somehow.

I thought I was the only one who had such an attachment to handwriting- it really is part of the person to me.
