My DS is 12 and has aspergers/adhd. yesterday he expressed an interest in yoga...which seems to me would be a great thing to explore, especially for self calming techniques.
My local Y offers classes but not for kids (LOL guess I don't live in a crunchy enough area... philly metro). I was wondering if anyone had a DVD to recommend for this? Or any other thoughts would be great too.

It is easy to follow and has two separate routines - one for first thing in the morning, and one for the evening.

My husband uses one by Rodney Yee. I think it's called "Yoga for Athletes." Rest assured, one does not have to be in fabulous shape to use it. The reason I recommend it is that it can be done in short segments (I think about 15 minutes) or all together. Although it's geared towards specific sports, it's just regular old Yoga.
My kids take a once a week class and I'm amazed at how it helps them calm down. I shouldn't be surprised, becaue I'm a Yoga junkie!

You might also want to call your local autism support agency to see if maybe there's a community yoga program already going on that isn't offered through the Y.

I'm glad you asked about this as I've been considering Yoga for Lily as well, mostly because she needs to increase her flexibility in her hips (her orthopedist wants me to do stretches with her each day), and this seems like an ideal way to do it. I had started doing some beginner stuff myself and was looking for a dvd, so I went ahead and order the Rodney Yee one recommended in this thread (am and pm). While there is a lot of information online, it's hard to set up a routine and remember what you want to do, it was making it more difficult to fit into my schedule.
I'm really looking forward to adding this to our morning routine!
