A woman called me today about care for her 2 kids.
She has asked that I collect her daughter from her school which is approximately 12 miles away, so there and back.
How much would you charge on top of the child care cost for this service? Gas is 1.20$/litre right now and we have a van.
It is worth it bc it is almost doubling what I was making before when I lost the boy I was caring for bc she also has a young son who will be with me daily.
Is 10$ or 12$ a day worth it?

you care for her after that? I would expect at least $.30 per mile for drive and an hourly rate for your time. $10 - $12 per day? Um, no, it would not be worth it in my world, unless it was just picking up the child. If you were being paid handsomely for caring for the other child, perhaps $10-$12 (plus mileage) could be okay.

I could be wrong but I think K's suggesting that range just for the pickup service, not for the childcare.

oh sorry! Yes, It's the full time for her young son, the part time for her school aged daughter AND pick up. Kripa figures 12$ plus 0.10$ a KM
i called the cab company and they figure about 20$ and that's only one way.
i don't know...

well, I would be collecting her from school until 5 or 6. So, that part time fee is 20-25$ depending on exactly how long after school it is.

When I had to turn in expense reports, we got the rate our state employees got, which was .40 a mile. But gas has gone up considerably recently. With a 12 mile trip, that would be $11.60. I would probably go with the $15 charge because I am guessing there will be so time spend just waiting for her to come out of the school.

Mmmmm... that and wear and tear on the van, not just the gas.
Well, we'll have to see. i'm not clear why she wants me to care for her kids this far from her home and *why* she has honestly changed caregivers 3 times in the last year. I will be walking towards this one with my eyes WIDE open.
