I'm not fertile, that was supposedly made permanent. Same with SO. I remember my mom telling me when I made my decision, that she knew a couple where they had two kids, she had a tubal....she got pregnant again.....he had a vasectomy....and then THEY HAD ANOTHER AFTER THAT. I remember thinking...uh-huh....funny story, whatever.

I've not had regular periods, but.....I'm approaching 40. I totally do not pay attention AT ALL. Except that in the past week, I've been really emotional, and my nipples hurt like HELL.

I happened to have a test laying around, and.....it's faintly positive.

This is not good. I just want to crawl under a rock and not get out.

{{hugs}} I do know someone that happened to. They already had 6 children. If you are pregnant, then this little one is truly a fighter and meant to be with your family. At least that's the attitude I've had to take when I got pregnant using birth control...twice.

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} How old is the test? Or does that matter, can HPTs have false positives - or do they just have false negatives?

My thoughts are with you, ST. Please feel free to PM me if you wish to discuss your options if you're considering termination.

I also second Annie's suggestion to buy a new test. They have expiration dates, and I wouldn't trust any result on a test that's expired (not sure if it's possible to get a false positive on an expired test, but you never know).

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering the same thing. If so, I think a joke about an unwanted pregnancy is kind of in poor taste, but I admit that I could just be overly hormonal right now.

I feel SO GUILTY!!! I suck at April fooling. I'm so not pregnant...I don't think....but now I'm paranoid... and I bet G-d will see to it that I am eating my words. :eyes: Yikes.

I suspected, but I hated to ASK! And I couldn't believe the coincidence that you chose THIS day to test and was thinking what a cool family story that could be passed down from generation to generation, the time when little whoever april fooled their parents. You & SO thinking "We're sterile" and little whoever figuratively popping in and saying "April Fools! You are so not sterile!"

See, I just didn't think it was that outlandish of a story because I know of lots of people whose birth control (even permanent) fails. (But please, God, not me.)

I didn't think it was outlandish. I'm just suspicious of all big news announcements on April Fools Day. And I thought the irony of the positive test on April Fools was unbelievable in an amazement sort of way. I know lots of people who's BC failed (yes permanent as well) but none of them, that I know, tested on April Fools day, LOL!

True. I'd feel sort of bad for someone who did, though, and got guarded responses. (Not that Trish did; which, honestly, I'm glad of, just in case it had been true.)

And that, folks, is why *I* can NEVER go ST. LMAO! lololol. LOL.

I can see how it could be seen that way, but I am sure Trish didn't mean for it to be. And honestly, I think in her own way she WOULD find it funny to be in that situation - freaked out yes, but damn the irony! I think Trish has a very healthy sense of humor that has helped her immensely with her load in life - and yes, even when it might feel inappropriate to someone else she put it out there because for HER that would be the HUGEST April Fool thing in the world, as *done* as she is in the baby having department.
I don't think you are being oversensitive but I also don't think she meant to be INsensitive.

True, but I actually wonder what the statistics would be for a tubal 2 years out, AND a vasectomy 6 years out. I mean....there honestly IS that couple that my mom told me about {sheesh mom, thanks for the support!}, but.....that was in the 70's, and I wonder, yk?

A funny story (doesn't involve a vasectomy though.) My aunt had her tubes tied. This was in the 60s. She got pregnant. She had the baby and decided to sue the doctor. Before the lawsuit got to court she was pregnant AGAIN. Her lawyer told her that she didn't have a very good case, since she went and got pregnant again!

The kind of funny part is that those two children ended up being her most normal kids. Her two older kids were/are freakshows. Oh the stories I could tell. (Actually I think I have complained here about one of them!)

I wonder how that ruined her case (her getting pregnant again post-tubal)? Seems like it would have strengthened it.

Because it showed that she didn't really want to prevent pregnancy, or she would have done something about it! (Used contraceptive, etc.) I mean, after the first pregnancy, it was clear that the procedure had failed. The second one didn't prove that any "extra." But the fact that she kept having babies showed that she wasn't serious about not having them.

Raising my hand.

Ten years ago today, we found out we were pregnant with Leelee! We had been trying to prevent pregnancy. I went in to the dr the day before for my annual and realized I hadn't had a period in a while. Took a test but it was negative and dr suggested trying again with FMU. Sure enough, it was positive.

So NATURALLY, we called all our families today to tell them we're pregnant!

Surprisingly, we only had one negative response, from D's dad. Everyone else was really excited. LOL

This was an April Fool's joke?I think "I'm pregnant" is probably about the most common April Fool's joke ever. I can't be the only person who's heard it many many times (and, for the record, I nearly always fall for it).

The first one was when my sister called me on April 1, 1987, and told me our then-42 y.o. mom was pregnant. I was in shock! :faint: (It's awfully funny to realize that I'm that age myself, now. But I don't FEEL old. :p)

The case law on failed contraceptive procedures is pretty f***ed up to me. Because it basically says "having a baby is a gift" and so the damages are not very great (i.e. the doctor is never expected to pay for 18 years of care, etc.). I just seems like a real Sophie's Choice and the courts are like "ehh, who doesn't love babies???).

Best!

P.S. I know in your sick-o family Sophie's Choice involves should we have pizza with or without mushrooms. That isn't what I mean! :)

ha! This thread is especially funny to me in light of what just happened. My brother called yesterday and left me a message to let me know that my pregnant sister-in-law had had an ultrasound...and it's TRIPLETS! Thing is, I didn't check the message until today, and there's no time-stamp on my voice mail, so I really wasn't expecting an April Fool's day joke. He had me going right up until the end, but his chipper "okay, bye then!" got me suspicious...

I TOTALLY believed it, but am reading it for the first time today, and it is the 11th already. Besides, down here, April Fool's Day is December 28th.
