So I got some diapers at Target in Vegas for step-DD. But I couldn't find covers anywhere! My sister is coming to visit in a few weeks and I was thinking of asking her to bring some covers. Where can I find good, reasonably-priced, online-order diaper covers?

What kind of diapers did you get? Are they DSQ prefolds?

My favorite cover for DSQ prefolds is Bummis Super Whisper Wrap. I use froogle.google.com to find the cheapest place at any given time to buy them.

If she's pinning prefolds or using fitteds, you can knit her some covers! Those are my favorite kinds of covers to use with those kinds of diapers. The best pattern I've found out there is the "picky pants" pattern from Little Turtle Knits.

I could knit some covers! I never thought of that!

I never used knitted covers...how are they to use? Do you need to use pins on the diapers? Do you wash them? Do they leak? Are they itchy? What kind of wool do you use?

I loved ProWraps! We used them and Bummi SuperWhisperwraps almost exclusively.

You have to use pins or snappis on the diapers - most wool covers are pull-on and so the diaper must be secured first. Or you can used fitteds with snaps.

I wash them on delicate - I do not wash them with diapers. They do not stink, however, through multiple wearings, so I tend to wash them once/week or if they get poop on them. I air-dry them. I do not wish to felt them, you know, so I wash them like I'd wash a sweater - no agigation, mild water temperature, etc. Unless you knit them extra-big and felt them on purpose - those work, too, and then you can wash and dry them with the diapers.

You do have to lanolize them periodically because it's the natural lanolin in the wool that makes them water resistant, and of course that starts getting washed out. It's as simple as dissolving lanolin in water and soaking the covers in it.

They don't leak any more frequently than my bummis super whisper wraps leak, which is to say, very rarely, and usually only if I've not put enough diaper in for the length of time.

The babies have never complained about it being scratchy LOL! But I'm not sure. I do use longies in the wintertime and the babies seem to be comfy in them.

I just use Knitpicks Wool of the Andes because I have it lying around the house and it's cheap. Someone at the yarn store once gave me a brand name people use for covers because it has lots of natural lanolin in it, but I don't remember what the brand was and I've never bothered to use anything special - just wool, you know?

We love our wool covers. We use fitted dipes with snaps, they are hemp and trim and absorbent. Then we use knitted wool covers or recycled wool covers (wool sweaters made to be covers). They are so adorable--a little wool butt under a dress, or little wool leggings/pants and a shirt. So cute and great for nighttime cloth diapering. Wool is the only way we could get through the night.
