Holy crap! And geez how nice that exempting nursing mothers might open the door to people BEING ALLOWED TO POSTPONE CANCER TREATMENT OR KIDNEY DIALYSIS !!!!!

You can't have that!

WTF????

I think that the guy sounds dumb, but what he was *trying* (and failing) to say was instead of making a law about this, judges need to broadly exercise discretion.

Any judge can excuse a person who is getting cancer treatment, etc. the judge was wrong. And I am sure a regular asshole on the bench.

Best!

Oh my.

How sad that she hopes the baby won't be nursing by summer.

I can't believe finding her in contempt for asking for a deferrment.

I was given three by two different courts while I was breastfeeding. I just asked nicely far in advance and received notice by mail that I did not have to appear. I wonder if she pushed it to the last minute and then showed up with kids in tow?

I don't know. From the way I was hearing it, the baby would be older and on solids so she would be ok leaving him for a longer period because she wouldn't have to nurse him as his only source of nourishment. :) But then I could have heard that wrong.

LOL ok cause what you said, sounds so much better. I'm sitting here yelling at the computer cause that guy is a big old idiot. Who decided he should be the one on TV. I mean holy crap, yes, someone on dyalisis should be exempt as well as someone on chemo.

I'm going to imagine that the judge, isn't at all breastfeeding friendly. Perhaps his mama didn't nurse him long enough. :p Oh sorry, I realize that was a naughty statement, but this just makes me crazy. Silly old man.

Could be. And I've been slapping myself around for being so projective, but nursing an older baby is so blissful, in my memory. I wish everybody really enjoyed it.

When I was called for duty this past summer, I noticed that this county pays "reasonable expenses" for unemployed jurors, which I take to mean childcare. (I wound up not needing to serve, so it was a nonissue.)

Ack, you're right. I went back to re-listen. She did say she'd hoped by summer, that she could get her mom to watch the kids and to not be nursing one of them. Oh well. I do applaud her for nursing at least some. Shucks.
