I can't remember ever going to a live theater performance. I've got to get out more. Amanda, on the other hand, has gone many times on school field trips. At her old school, they just wore jeans or shorts with a school/class t-shirt so that they were easily identifiable as a member of the group on a field trip. Today's email from her teacher (different school, same theater where she saw performances with her old school group) mentions that the kids should go "appropriately dressed for a matinee performance." What does that mean? Does she need to wear a nice shirt/skirt or dress, rather than her normal school clothes (usually a t-shirt and jeans)?

If it matters, they are going to see Alvin Ailey's dance troupe, so it is a dance performance, not a play.

Thanks!

Last time I went to a matinee I wore jeans and a tshirt, and felt like total heel.

I'd suggest something other than jeans/tshirt, but nothing too fancy.

I would probably say dressy-ish pants or a casual skirt. (Like for C, I would put him in docker-like pants and a polo shirt kind of thing and feel fine about it.)

Lucky Amanda!! The Alvin Ailey dancers are fabulous!

Yes, I'd dress her in a nice dress or skirt, but not fancy. nt

I guess that depends on where you live. People go to evening theater preformances in jeans here in Seattle. Of course, they're rubbing elbows with people in evening gowns, but as long as they don't care no one else does either. Ahhh, gotta love Seattle.

I think it is a little odd that she requested appropriate matinee attire and didn't explain what that meant. But since she specifically mentioned it, I would send her in something nicer than jeans.
