My colleague R. and his pregnant wife are flying into Boston on Friday, then leaving in the AM to take the ferry to P-town. R. has asked for my input for a restaurant for Friday evening, and for P-town area sightseeing. They are both vegetarians.
Any restaurant recommendations?
Any P-town recs? I'm thinking Race Point and they plan to go whale-watching, but I'd love some input (including restaurants). They will not have a car.

I haven't been to Boston for dinner, but this place: http://www.metropolisboston.com/ is amazing for breakfast. Not sure how many days they serve it, but I ate there about 6 months ago and dream about their cheese grits. :-) Brunch is very veggie friendly (I am vegetarian) but not sure about their other things.

Where are they staying in the city? Most anything is accessible by the T, maybe the Union Oyster House, or Durgin Park or even going to Fanieul Hall (both UOH and DP are near FH) and getting something at the food court there (love the chowdah bread bowls!) and people watch at Quincy Market. When we do go to the city we usually do the latter. The weather is supposed to be lovely for the next week so if they can find a place to dine outdoors that would be nice too. Newbury St?
ETA- North End for Italian!!!

Poke Hobbes if he doesn't see this - they took us out to a really great casual (but hip!) cafe that would be perfect for any P-Town days spent walking around, at least for lunch and breakfast. Tons of veggie options there - it was on the west end, near the (uhhhh, I think!!) Art House theater. (Again, ask Hobbes for specifics.)
Sooooo many choices for great dining too . . . my own favorite thing in a place like P-Town is just to stroll and read menus and see what you happen upon. Last year when we got together with Trey and Guy, we ate at the Lobster Pot, and got the very best table in the place - upstairs, against the front windows. It's great food and really decent service, but always VERY BUSY. It won't be cleared out by this weekend yet :-/.

I really like Casablanca (http://www.cbrestaurant.com/), in Harvard Square.
My family's favorite (well, my parents', because I can't afford it!) is Antico Forno (http://www.anticofornoboston.com/), in the North End. If that is not open, Terramia (http://www.terramiaristorante.com/) is owned by the same person. The vegetarian selection at Antico Forno is better.
There's some good Thai and Indian food down on Commonwealth Ave by BU, and Elephant Walk (http://www.elephantwalk.com/) is off the green line C train (I think it's the Cleveland Circle stop) -- they have a large selection of vegan and veggie food, and are Cambodian/ French themed.
The North End is pretty packed with fun places, as is Faneuil Hall, right down the street (ok, across the Rose Kennedy greenway...). The gelato in the North End is good, but don't go to Mike's Pastry, go to Maria's, which faces the greenway.
Hope they have fun!

We had a phenomenal dinner in P-Town on John's birthday, it was a little Italian place down an alleyway at the southern end of Commercial Street - I can't remember the name but it was not a good fit for vegetarians anyway.
BTW, Sally - we stayed at The Provincetown Inn - it was musty and rundown and PERFECT for a Cape Cod vaca. :)
FWIW - Cambridge has a great selection of Indian and East Asian restaurants and we had a LOT of good luck this summer (did a lot travelling throughout upstate NY and NE) with TripAdvisor and restaurants. The good ones - were good.

We stayed at the Provincetown Inn in May. I agree with your assessment. :-)
