Whenever I hear something being played on the piano, I sigh, and wish I could play.

Maybe if I get a job while the girls are in school this year, or I make lots of money this fall taking pictures, ;-) ;-) :-P I will take some and use it for lessons. I wonder if I am too old.

You are never too old. My BF taught piano and bass guitar for years and had clients of varying ages from very young to very old.

If i can learn guitar enough to play with a beginner band you *can* learn piano.
I never thought i could do this, i used to cry over it, i wanted it so bad, and it's been slow... but i can DO it :-))

Absolutely not! My grandfather began playing in his 70s and had a great time. (Though I think he may have had an affair with the piano teacher -- who was also my piano teacher AWKWARD! -- so do try not to do that!)

I wish I could organize and maintain a home. I really really wish that I could do this.

And some sex stuff that I'm not going to say outright.

I wish I could speak Spanish. I took four years in high school and a lot stayed with me. But the boys are only two years into Spanish lessons and have now passed my knowledge. I really wanted to take Spanish I from the local CC this semester but it didn't work out. I will try to find a study at home program but it's not the same. I feel....kind of embarrassed that I only know one language.

I AM taking some photography classes through a different program and am very excited about it!

I wish I could speak Spanish fluently, play the guitar, and knit really well.

I wish I could sing. I really fear having to sing in group situations because I am so bad at it!

I wish I could sing something other than kids songs. I'll belt out "I've been working on the railroad" with the kids while we walk down the street, but grown up music? Forget it.

I wish I could dance naturally (as in have real rhythem). I admire dancers so much, even nightclub dancing LOL. I can dance, but not real well. Even stupid line dances took/take me forever to learn, and when I was in my 20s I would practice in my room for days.

Sometimes I think I should just go take dancing lessons, but I'm impatient, I don't want to learn basics, I want to get down and groove!

This is precisely my wish, too. I'm really bad, and extremely self concious about it. The only thing I sing is Happy Birthday, and I murmur the National Anthem (but lip sync like I'm singing) because that comes up often enough with a military husband.

I was just coming here to say the same thing. Well, not that _you_ can't sing, but that _I_ can't. :-P

Sue, no way are you too old.

I just started playing hammered dulcimer last September. And yes, I have a musical background, but this is unlike anything I have ever played and other than a good "musical sense" it was all learning from scratch.

You can do it. And if you want to, you should!

Maybe you could barter for lessons?

Here is my (now not) secret wish.

I want to sing backup harmony for a folk band.

I can sing, and I love singing, but I really don't like singing lead. I only love singing harmony. Most people I have met don't get that. But it doesn't matter what they think.

I don't think it is one of those things you can just "make" happen, though. I'd have to meet the right people at the right time with the right musical chemistry and the right personal chemistry and similar goals and similar expectations and similar tastes...and locally. It's a long shot and hasn't happened yet in all my years, despite wishing. If the right opportunity comes along in the future, I will be thrilled. If not, I'll know I've done a lot of other great things and it's okay if I don't do all of them.

Also, I don't really want this sort of opportunity thrust at me until the kids can stay home unsupervised and I have the flexibility for that kind of commitment. I don't right now.

Now, several years ago I would have said I wished I could play hammered dulcimer, which I have been learning for a year now. (Check). I also would have said I wished I could play fiddle. I'm now learning along with my DD, so that's also a potential (check). And I wish I could lose some weight, which I'm working on and having some success at, so there's another potential (check) if I can sustain it. Last year I wanted a great, flexible work-at-home job. (Check.) A long time ago I wished I could live in Vermont. (Check). And I wished I could live way out in the country. (Check). And a very long time ago I wanted to marry my best friend. (Check).

I guess I'm in the habit of pursuing my wishes. :jester:

I wish i could knit, but every time i try to learn, i end up with useless gobs of molten pain instead of hands.

Also, i wish i had any semblance of discipline.

I wish I knew how to make stained glass. And jewelry. But mostly the stained glass. Something about the colors of glass, the way light shines through it, is just really appealing and seems so creative to me.

Also, i wish i had any semblance of discipline.Oh hey, that second one.

I also wish fervently that I could sing, like the kind of singing that gives people chills. Karl*ye Mull*ins in high school, my sister's ex-girlfriend (and curiously, my sister's wife), Karen Carpenter - that voice. I can carry a tune. But it's just barely serviceable.

My mom used to do that. She stopped when she had kids, not wanting to have lead lying around the house and such. You should look into it, as i never got the impression it was crushingly difficult to take up.

All of this! I used to do it a lot until Angus came along and stopped for the same reason. Now I merely have too many other hobbies to go around. I do have glass and tools etc in my basement; plans for the glass itself but I really need to get out the grinder to see if it's still in good shape. Kathy, you should totally find a glass -- just ask at any glass store, they'll know if anyone is teaching. It's ridiculously easy, really.

And make clothes that fit my body well.
And be better at photography.
Oh, and clean my house and be organized.

I wish I could knit well. I was with knitting friends the other day and they're so fast and good. One does continental knitting and just flies through it. I don't get lots of time to knit so I forget how to do things and make lots of mistakes.

I played oboe in high school. I wish I could take oboe lessons again.

I would love to sing and play piano. I wish I could really read music. I forget how.

I wish I was creative with cooking and that I really loved it. I just find it a huge chore.

I basically just wish I was creative, period.

That I could knit continental with a tighter tension (help, anyone?)

That I could speak Khmer, or Spanish, or Portuguese

That I could break 7 min/mile in a 5K.

That I could read all the books that I've been planning to read, but never get to because I have "something else to do"

I wish I could fly. No seriously--I have always wanted to learn to be a pilot. And specifically to fly a biplane.

And you are definitely not too old. I have a couple of friends who began to take piano lessons in their 30s and 40s and they love it.

You can learn to play piano! I've been taking lessons for just over two years now. It's gotten to be much harder for me to take the time to practice since I've gone back to school, but it's so rewarding!

As for me, I wish I was good at adding those little personal touches that make a home more personal and lovely.
