The reason I get up at 5:30 AM when DH goes to work is so that I can do these things peacefully, ALONE. Not so DS can start getting up at 6AM when I'm just getting started and interrupt non-stop. What do I do to get him to sleep in like any normal kid on summer break? I'll play the Wii with him if he gets up after I'm done working out, but I CANNOT get a decent workout with non-stop interruptions. I'm a solitary person. I like my ME time - that's why I get up at the ass crack of dawn. /end vent

Hi Mary, I'm Sarah. Welcome to my life.

I did the exact same thing, and the same thing happened. Suddenly my kids were getting up to TALK to me while I was trying to work out. At FIVE. ARGH! Then I switched to letting it eat an hour out of my day while they were in school and now that they're on vacation I'm not sure what to do, honestly.

With my older son, he has a clock in his room, and I can tell him what time he can come downstairs.

That's not a bad idea. 10 year olds can definitely read clocks.

Does he get up because he can hear the Wii? We have a wireless RF headset for the main TV (which is where the Wii lives) that can be used when a veiwer/player doesn't want to wake the house, which might be another solution for you.

He's just unfortunately good at getting up way too early.

Aw, that stinks Mary!

I too would simply request that he NOT come and visit you while you are getting your workout. I'm sure that he would understand. I would absolutely tell that to my kids.

We finally worked it out, thank goodness, but it took a few days of huffiness, pouting, and guilt-inducing "But I just want to spend time with you!" Mmmhmmm, me and the Wii... I've actually had mostly peaceful workouts for the past week and when I'm done and get in the shower, it's his to play until I leave for work.

I'm so glad to hear that you guys figured this out. :yay:
