Shoe shopping today put my in a really foul mood. I'm pouting and feeling sorry for myself, so bear with me. LOL.

I've worn Keen Mary Janes in the past, but the sandals I tried on today were all too narrow. I also tried Chacos in wide, and they were too narrow too. I tried mens' shoes...still too narrow, and ugly to boot. The salesperson at REI suggested going to the nearest New Balance store. I'm looking at the New Balance website, and my heart is sinking. I've never been a shoe fashionista and I'm okay with "comfort" shoes instead of something super stylish, but I don't see anything I really like there.

Is there somewhere else I should look for wide shoes? Are Landsend's wide shoes really wide?

I'm not sure why this is the first time this has been a real problem for me. I do usually end up trying on dozens of sandals or tennis shoes trying to find one that fits just right, but it is just usually a brand that runs wide, not actually a wide shoe. I also usually end up wearinig shoes out in the spot where my feet are wide (the side tears or pops out in some way) so maybe I just usually wear shoes that are too narrow? And maybe my feet are getting wider?

I am not really any further down the path of discovery, but I posted something similar (http://www.yaaps.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11356) last month for Tori. She is a tough fit!! I keep meaning to have her try some Keens, but so far, no dice. She has a real VOLUME of foot too, it's not just wide and flat.

One little discovery I made is that a men's regular shoe is a D width, while a women's regular is a B and a women's wide is a D. I suspect that I need an EE (women's extra wide... I guess that means men's wide?). The men's Keens were a bit narrow for me. Maybe I should have asked if they had men's chacos in 9W (I wear a 10 or 10.5 in Women's)

I have been happy with Munro and Ecco shoes. They are pricey. But I have found good deals at Nordstrom's Rack, Sierra Trading Post and Marshall's.

Munro is my favorite, and I get good deals on the scouring Ebay. I really don't care if someone else wore it three times and then didn't like it, so I can have it for $10 :loveit:.

Munro has WW, Kristy.

I've never tried them in a more active shoe, though. They are just my everyday shoes and sandals.

Sigh, this is why I own so many different Doc's. (I have a size 7 3E foot with a high arch.) They are the only show that consistently is wide enough. Occasionally a style of Merrel will fit but i often end up bying boys/small men's shoes. Recently I was able to get a pair of BUM shoes that fit well though. Sanatana's are sometime's good as well but i think they may be only Canadian.

I have a pair of Clarks that is really wide and is actually loose in that area where you are saying that you have problems. For me that is also the problem area. But they're not sandals. I have also have a pair of Teva Ryley that are pretty wide. Something else to think about, (not to add more obstacles in your path, sorry!) but you should always try on shoes later in the day. Your feet swell over the course of the day and will be slightly bigger than they are earlier in the day.

I wear wide widths as well. I recently got a pair of Clarks Springers sandals in wide width - they are immensely comfortable! I had to find them at an outlet store, as the local department stores rarely carry Clarks in wide widths, but the bright side was that they were cheaper. It makes a difference that this particular style had adjustable straps though, as even wide Clarks are often still too narrow in the instep over the top of my foot even if they're fine on the sole (if that makes sense).

Other brands that I know with wide or extra-wide widths are New Balance, Nike (unfortunately I hate Nike as a company, but their wide tennis shoes fit me the best of any brand by far), Bass, White Mountain and Easy Spirit. Easy Spirit has ugly tennis shoes and sandals in my non-fashionista opinion but they do have some nice dressier shoes. The White Mtn wides run a bit on the narrow side in my experience though. Doc Martens and Birkenstock aren't wide widths per se but do seem to run wide in my experience. Edited to add: Kohl's carries the Nike, Adidas and New Balance shoes in wide widths, and they also stock other styles of their store brand shoes in wide widths as well. Try looking at the Kohl's website, though they often have more styles in stores. Land's End does seem to run fairly wide too but I've only ever tried one style of their shoes (the ones that I think are called the All-Weather moccasins or something - which are incredibly comfortable as well).

OH my gosh.

New balance has a shoe that fits me and feels great on my feet.

It is hideous. Really, I think you could make a good episode of "Candid Camera" involving bringing this shoe out to customers to try on. If you had asked me to imagine an ugly shoe, I couldn't have done better.

It costs $150.

Yeah, I didn't buy myself the shoes. I think I'm just going to suck it up and wear shoes that don't fit quite right? I apparently wear a women's 10.5 extra wide or a men's 9 wide (but the mens' shoes seem to be too loose in the heel.)

This sounds frustrating. How about zappos.com? You can search by width, and if they don't fit you can easily return the shoes (my brother only buys shoes from them now). This is a search for EE width: http://www.zappos.com/search/shoes/filter/hide:productTypeFacet/%22Shoes%22/gender/%22Womens%22/width/%22EE%22/sort/isNew/desc

Because I know there were hundreds of people waiting on pins and needles...

I'm back to report that Land's End wide sandals are.... too narrow for my feet. I think they are wide in the wrong spot, or something. In the part of my foot that is the widest, I think the Keens I bought first fit better.

A size 10 also seems to be a little on the long side. Maybe a men's 8.5 wide would fit me better?

*whine* I just want to wear shoes other than crocs once and a while this summer.

Gah, don't say that - I just ordered Tori some LE 9.5W women's sandals! (River Trekker, or something like that.) I guess we'll see if your feet are wider than hers, LOL! Good reminder about the men's wides, that's what I'll do if these don't fit her.

The ones I bought were River Trekkers. I do know now that my feet are apparently wider than most normal women's wide sizes, so I still think there's a chance Tori's will fit her. . I think a half size smaller would have been a better length for me, though.

I'm glad returns are easily done at Sears stores.

I have resorted to mens sandals from Target in size 9. Only thing I could find since Shoe Emporium closed here. They had a huge variety of Birks I could try on and always found something that worked.

Oh I did find a pair of $10 sandals {men size 10} at Longs drugstore of all places that are probably the most comfortable sandals I have ever worn. Probably not going to last a long time but so far so good...worn them almost everyday for a month now. Not much to look at but they work for me. I snagged 4 pair. I just can't face going to the shoe stores and facing the same disappointment you have been dealing with. I hope you find something soon!

Longs, eh? I've got one about two miles away from me, so I guess it is worth checking them out. Who would have though?

I tried on a small pair of mens Keen Sandals yesterday and they fit me! I started wondering if you had tried that. It's harder to find nice ones that aren't plain brown but they look almost the same as the womens if you can find a nice colour.

Unfortunately I did try that. I think the problem is that my feet are apparently as wide as a men's wide or extra wide (double or quadruple wide in women's shoes?)

Damn! I found a pair for myself in the venice style. They don't have as many straps so the arch fit me. I hope you can find a pair you like, I feel your pain, it's rare for me to find shoes, I'm a EEE width.
